Terms of Service
Last updated: December 1, 2025
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of SonicCaption (the browser extension, website, and related services). By installing or using SonicCaption, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Who we are
SonicCaption is a software service that provides real-time subtitles and translations on top of browser tabs.
SonicCaption is operated by a company registered in the United States ("we", "us", "our"). You can contact us at xtcodetech+soniccaption@gmail.com.
2. Eligibility
By using SonicCaption, you confirm that:
- You are at least 16 years old (or the minimum age required in your country).
- You have the legal right to agree to these Terms.
- You are using SonicCaption in compliance with all applicable laws.
If you use SonicCaption on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
3. What SonicCaption does
SonicCaption:
- Captions audio from your browser tab in real time
- Translates captions into one or more target languages
- Displays subtitles as an overlay on top of the page
SonicCaption does not host or control the underlying content (videos, streams, meetings, etc.) and is not responsible for their availability, legality, or accuracy.
You remain fully responsible for:
- Which websites and services you use with SonicCaption
- Having the right to access and view that content
4. Accounts and security
Some features may require an account.
You agree to:
- Provide accurate and up-to-date information
- Keep your login credentials confidential
- Notify us if you suspect unauthorised use of your account
You are responsible for all activity under your account.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that:
- Violate these Terms
- Are involved in abuse, fraud, or security risks
- Cause harm to the service or other users
5. Plans, pricing, and payments
SonicCaption currently offers:
- A free tier with a limited one-time quota of 20 minutes of caption time so you can try the product in real situations
- Paid subscription plans with higher monthly limits, for example plans that currently include 8 hours, 20 hours, or custom hours (contact us at xtcodetech+soniccaption@gmail.com) of caption time per month
Pricing and plan details are shown on our website or within the product and may change from time to time.
We measure usage in caption minutes (the amount of audio you process using SonicCaption). For example:
- Watching a 30-minute video with captions on the whole time uses about 30 minutes.
- A 1-hour meeting uses about 60 minutes.
If you exceed your plan's included minutes, captions may pause until:
- Your quota resets for the next billing period, or
- You upgrade to a higher plan (where available)
We may update the available plans, included quotas, and features from time to time. The version shown at checkout or on the pricing page is the one that applies.
5.1 Billing
Paid plans are billed through Stripe or another payment processor.
By subscribing:
- You authorise us (and our payment provider) to charge your chosen payment method on a recurring basis (monthly or yearly, as shown at checkout).
- Prices may exclude taxes; applicable taxes may be added as required by law.
- Subscriptions automatically renew until you cancel.
5.2 Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel future renewals at any time via the billing portal link (or by contacting support).
When you cancel:
- Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period
- We generally do not offer refunds for partially used periods, except where required by law or at our discretion
If we ever close SonicCaption entirely or make major changes that significantly reduce its core functionality, we will aim to provide reasonable notice and, where appropriate, a fair approach for existing subscribers.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use SonicCaption for any illegal, harmful, or abusive purpose
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the service
- Use SonicCaption to systematically harvest or redistribute content you do not have the right to access
- Circumvent usage limits, quotas, or security measures
- Share one personal account across unrelated groups in a way that bypasses our pricing
You are responsible for complying with the terms of any third-party sites or services (e.g. streaming platforms, meeting tools) you use with SonicCaption.
7. Third-party services
SonicCaption integrates with and depends on third-party providers (e.g. speech-to-text APIs, translation APIs, hosting, payment processors).
We do not control:
- Their uptime or performance
- Their terms and policies
- Changes they might make
Your use of those providers is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not liable for issues caused primarily by third-party outages or changes.
8. Intellectual property
We (and our licensors) own all rights to:
- The SonicCaption software (extension, website, backend)
- Our logos, branding, and design
- Documentation and marketing materials
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use SonicCaption for your personal or internal business use, in accordance with these Terms.
You do not gain ownership of SonicCaption by using it or by subscribing.
9. "As-is" service and disclaimers
We work hard to make SonicCaption helpful and reliable, but:
- We cannot guarantee 100% accuracy of captions or translations
- We cannot guarantee uninterrupted, error-free service
- We cannot guarantee compatibility with every website or streaming service
SonicCaption is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement
- Reliability or availability
You use SonicCaption at your own risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, or business interruption.
- Our total liability for any claim related to SonicCaption shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the service in the 3 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim (or a reasonable equivalent if you are on the free tier).
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example, certain consumer rights in some jurisdictions).
11. Changes to the service or Terms
We may:
- Add, change, or remove features
- Adjust pricing or plan structure
- Update these Terms
If we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and may provide additional notice (e.g. in-app message or email).
Your continued use of SonicCaption after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, and, where applicable, the laws of the U.S. state in which our company is registered, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
If you are a consumer in a region with mandatory local protections, you may also benefit from certain non-waivable rights under your local law.
